Virgin Australia (formally Virgin Blue) engaged Advanced Shade Systems to design and install a new shade solution at their Brisbane office. Two areas where required to be covered providing staff with shaded outdoor areas for lunch and general congregation.
Virgin placed several project constraints on both the design team and installation team. They were as follows;
Installed on site were two sets of, linked HYPAR shade sails covering the desired locations. The first, a pair of linked sails and the second a more complex arrangement of three sails. Given the varying levels which the posts needed to be fixed to a mix of bored-pier footings, base plates to existing concrete as well as wall brackets were utilised. An upside to these varying footing types gave the opportunity to have wildly exaggerated mounting heights for the sails. We believe that this allowed the theme of flight to be adhered to as the complex curves now created by the sails replicates the wings of a bird when in the air. Finished in a sandstone like colour the final product fulfilled Virgin’s expectations and exceeded them.
