Advanced Shade Systems designs, engineers, manufactures and installs car park shade structures for retail, commercial and council sites across Brisbane, South East QLD and Australia-wide. From single-bay cantilevers to full-site tension membrane installations, every structure is built to handle Australian wind loads, UV exposure and the daily wear of a working car park. We've been doing this since 1996, and the work speaks for itself across hundreds of completed sites.
Car park shade structures are engineered fabric or membrane coverings installed over parking areas to protect vehicles, customers and staff from sun, rain and hail. Two core options drive the choice. Shade fabric structures, typically high-density polyethylene (HDPE), filter UV while remaining lightweight and cost-effective for large spans. Tension membrane structures, made from architectural PVC, deliver full waterproof cover and longer warranty periods. The right answer depends on the site's purpose, the climate exposure, and whether year-round dry parking matters to your customers or occupants. We design to brief, not catalogue.
Every site is different, and so is every structure. The configurations we deliver most often:

The fabric decision sets the structure. Both options are technically tensile membrane structures, but they use different fabrics for different jobs.
Shade fabric is the right call when the priority is UV protection, cooler vehicle interiors and budget-friendly large-span coverage. Quality HDPE shade fabric blocks up to 99% of UV, breathes in wind, and works well across spans from single bays to full retail car parks. It does not, however, keep cars or customers dry in heavy rain.
Vinyl (architectural PVC) is the heavier-grade option, tensioned over an engineered frame to deliver fully waterproof shade structures. It costs more, but you get full-weather cover, fire-rated material options, and warranty periods that suit assets you expect to hold for decades. These systems also allow integrated water capture for sites looking to manage stormwater.
For most commercial sites, we recommend vinyl over the high-traffic zones (covered entries, queue points, premium parking) and shade fabric over the broader car park. We'll walk through the trade-off on your specific site before we quote.

Our primary delivery region is Brisbane and South East QLD, with regular projects across regional Queensland and a national capability for multi-site clients. Recent and ongoing car park work includes Burpengary Central, Queensland Cricket, The Glen Hotel, Victoria Point and Woolworths Karalee. We've delivered shade structures for major builders (Hutchinson, McNab, JMAC, Inten), schools (Brisbane Boys' College, Brisbane Grammar, Cannon Hill Anglican College), councils, and commercial clients across our completed projects. If your site is outside SEQ, talk to us - we mobilise nationally for the right brief.

Almost 30 years in commercial shade. Founded in 1996, we now work exclusively on commercial projects - schools, councils, retail, hospitality, sporting venues and major builders. Every step from design through to install runs through our own team: we don't outsource engineering, manufacture or installation. That's why we can stand behind every structure we deliver, and why our shade structures sit on some of the most demanding sites in QLD. We also engineer and build solar-integrated car park structures, a capability most shade contractors don't have in-house. Our broader range covers shade structures we design and build for every commercial application.
Cost depends on the structure type (shade fabric is generally lower cost than tension membrane), the span and column configuration, site access, and any electrical, lighting or solar integration. For a single-bay cantilever, budgets typically start in the low five figures; for a multi-bay tension membrane installation, project values can reach six or seven figures. We provide fixed-price quotes after a site assessment, with full engineering certification included.
A correctly engineered and installed structure should deliver decades of service. Architectural-grade HDPE shade fabrics carry warranties of 10 to 15 years on the fabric itself, with steel frames engineered to last 25 years or more. Tension membrane PVC fabrics offer longer warranty periods again. The frame, footings and fixings should outlast multiple fabric replacements.
Yes, in most cases. Car park shade structures are classified as building works under the National Construction Code and require structural certification plus a building permit from the local council. We prepare the engineering documentation and work with your building certifier to manage the approval process. For QLD councils, we know the requirements well.
They can be. Every structure we build is engineered to the wind region it will sit in, in line with AS/NZS 1170.2. For sites north of Bundaberg, that means designing to cyclonic loading (Wind Region C). We're transparent in the quote about which wind region your site sits in and what the engineering response is.
We've been engineering car park shade structures for Australian sites since 1996. Whether you're a commercial property manager planning a single-bay cantilever or a builder coordinating a full retail centre shade-out, we'll walk through the site, talk you through the structure options, and provide a fixed-price engineered quote. Brisbane, SEQ, QLD-wide and national projects all welcome.
