The local government funded a redevelopment of the Cameron Rocks fishing platform which included the provision of shade sails above the new composite wood and fiberglass decking. Being in an exposed area with no shade resulted in a space where fisherman, though wanting to stay a long time, found themselves needing to find refuge elsewhere or leave the area entirely.
Several challenges arose in the design and installation of this project. These included;
Solution The final solution designed and installed was a five posted HYPAR shade sail system. With posts extending from the riverbed below, the system was finished in a white powder coat to compliment the white paint used on the balustrade around the perimeter of the deck. A bright red sail was installed to create a feature pop of colour and provides enough shade for most of the deck as well as seating installed below. This final design was the winner of an International Fabrics Association (IFAI) Outstanding Achievement Award in 2010.
