Bulimba Riverside Park

Problem Overview

Council approached Advanced Shade Systems with the task of designing and installing a shade solution over the new and proposed areas of the Bulimba Riverside Park in Bulimba. They were required to cover two areas of play equipment which where planned to be installed in two stages.

Project Challenges and Constraints

A number of constraints had been placed upon the project. These were;

  • The sails were required to be long lasting in the windy location adjacent the Brisbane River.
  • A fluid approach to the design would be required as the project was broken into two stages. It was likely that the design for stage 2 would change after the completion of stage 1.
  • The request for a ship’s sail aesthetic was to be adhered to as best as possible.

Solution

The final solution as installed by Advanced Shade Systems was done over a period of three months, taking into account the staged development of the site. Finished with both blue and charcoal sails, the exaggerated height variations in the sails create a dynamic aesthetic replicating that of moving ships sails in high winds. Local families have commented on the high-quality project with the local council delighted with the end result.
