Brisbane City Council had received several messages from the public expressing their concern with the lack of shade over a playground in the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens. With planned upgrades to the playground (a new sandpit), the council took the opportunity to approach Advanced Shade Systems for the design and install of new shade over the two areas.
Brisbane City Council imposed a number of constraints on the project. Some of these included;
Our final solution was comprised of two shade sail installations. The first, a six posted HYPAR over
the new sandpit and the second, a nine posted HYPAR over the existing playground. All posts were
produced with a large radius given the appearance of them curving outwards from the ground. This
was done to maximise the amount of shade coverage we could achieve without impacting on the
gardens of footpaths. Finished in a green powder coat surface finish, the posts alone made a
statement. Both sets of sails were completed with green and charcoal shade fabric.
