Battye Park was a unique brief presented by the Ipswich City Council. The end goal was to create a carnival themed playground full of bright colours and vibrant elements reflective of those found in a circus or carnival atmosphere. Additionally, in it’s first iteration, there was no provision for shade above the play equipment, resulting in hot and dangerous conditions.
Several challenges arose in the design and manufacturing process of this project. These included;
The final design solution was comprised of a series of six-sided and four-sided shade structures – each fit with multicoloured tops and decorative edge seams. Working closely with our powder coater, the decorative polka dot posts were fabricated using a two step processes allowing for a vibrant and accurate finish. The decorative edging was cut and sewed by hand to ensure a highly detailed finish to the circus theme. Additionally, custom made anti- climbing plates were fabricated to prevent vandalism to the completed project. Though not a traditional shade structure install, the client was left extremely impressed with the project and how well we were able to adhere to their brief.
